How the coronavirus is affecting FC Barcelona


Friday, March 13. The effects of COVID-19 on FC Barcelona
7.55pm. Barça's basketball training sessions are suspended until further notice. This weekend, players will receive an individualised training programme until group training resumes.
4:55pm. The FC Barcelona Player's Association will be closed to the public until further notice. You can follow any updated information through their Twitter account @fcbjugadors.
4.40pm. The International Handball Federation announces that the pre-Olympic tournaments, scheduled for April, are postponed until June. They are competitions that indirectly affect FC Barcelona because seven players from the Catalan national side must participate with their respective teams.
2.15pm. Barça Women cease all activity until further notice. 
1.30pm. Barça B and the U19 A squad also suspend all activity until further notice.
1.00pm. The FC Barcelona board meeting scheduled for Monday 16 March has been postponed. 
12.05pm. Given the current situation and following the recommendations of the medical staff at the Club, the first team has suspended all activity until further notice.

11.05am. UEFA announce the remaining Champions League games scheduled for 17 and 18 March have been postponed. Therefore Barça v Napoli will not take place at Camp Nou on 18 March and the fixture is awaiting a new date to be played. 

Thursday, 12 March

9.00pm: A recap of some of the developments for Thursday 12 March. 
How COVID-19 is affecting FC Barcelona
8.00pm. The next Barça Legends game scheduled for next March 28 at Anfield against the Liverpool Legends has also been postponed.
4.50pm. World Confederation of Penyes suspends all activities, including conferences, sports tournaments, training workshops and children's events. 
2.45pm. Training will take place on Friday for the first team, at 11am, behind closed doors. Barça B and the Under-19s A team, meanwhile, will not train on Friday, Saturday or Sunday (except those players called up for first team training on Friday).
2.30pm. FC Barcelona make recommendations to staff: 
In order to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the collective group of people who form part of FC Barcelona, and following the recommendation to reduce the occupation density of workspaces as a measure to slow the spread of the coronavirus, the club willl continue to function with the following conditions:
  • Minimal presential services will be in place, with remote working encouraged for those able to do so. 
  • Flexible working hours for those who require attendance at the club, either sporadically or regularly, with the aim of avoiding crowds at peak times.
  • Diverse measures and safety recommendations to be followed (avoid meetings in person, maintain minimum distance, emphasise hygeine measures).
12.00am. LaLiga has been suspended for at least the next two weeks. The measure was decided upon in a meeting by the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), LaLiga and the Spanish Footballers Association (AFE) at the Ciudad Deportiva de Las Rozas. The decision affects Barça's games against Mallorca on Matchday 28, and Leganés on Matchday 29.
11.22am. The Euroleague has decided to temporarily suspend all of its competitions, with immediate effect, in accordance with the recommendations of the World Health Organisation (WHO). The European basketball competition will thus postpone all scheduled games, including those for FC Barcelona, who were set to play Zalgiris Kaunas at the Palau Blaugrana on Friday at 9pm CET on Matchday 29 of the Regular Season.
10.35am. Following the announcements by the Catalan federations for rugby, basketball, hockey and volleyball, as well as the Spanish winter sports federations for basketball and hockey, the club's amateur sports teams will suspend all activity until March 31 -including training sessions.
Currently, the only games that will still be played according to the established schedule pertain to the Spanish volleyball federations, whilst FERugby will play games scheduled for March 21 and 22 -to be played behind closed doors.

Wednesday, 11 March 

10.05pm: The ACB League announces that the matches for weeks 24 and 25, which were to be held over the next two weeks, are postponed. They will be held during the month of April.
9.15pm: A few minutes ago the Spanish Basketball Federation has decided to suspend all matches on the next day of their national competition. The Barça B match at LEB Plata is suspended.
9.05pm: Starting this Thursday, March 12, the FC Barcelona Museum and Ice Rink will be closed for the next 15 days as a preventive measure #COVID19
8.30pm: La Masia will be closed for the next two weeks and residents will continue their academic activity from home
7.50pm: The summary of training and matches is as follows:
The Segunda B, the Youth Honor Division, the Copa de le Reina and the women’s Iberdrola League, the Asobal League, the OK League and the Copa del Rey for roller hockey have been postponed, as well as the LNFS for futsal. 
However, the club's professional teams will continue to train.
Regarding the football and basketball first teams; LaLiga, UEFA, ACB and the Euroleague will ensure that the games are played behind closed doors. UEFA have yet to comment on Atlético Madrid - Barça in the women's Champions League.
The Barça B hockey and basketball teams will continue to play their matches behind closed doors and, therefore, will continue to train normally.
None of the other teams, from any sports discipline, will train.

6.25pm: Handball - fixtures for week 20 and 21 of the Asobal League have been postponed affecting Barça's games against Granollers and Guadalajara. 
5.20pm: The Spanish Football Federation suspends all women's competitive football due to the threat of coronavirus. The Club has decided to stop all activity for the youth teams during this period. The women's first team, despite not having any matches, will continue to train. 
3.30pm: Changes relating to the FC Barcelona Museum:
  • Reduction of capacity to 300 people per session 
  • Tactile interactive space at the Museum closed 
  • Change in the route for the Players Experience Tour (no access to first team players' dressing room) 
  • Match Day Tour cancelled
2.00pm: The Spanish Football Federation has approved the suspension of non-professional men's and women's football for the next two weeks. Fixtures for Barça B and for the Barça futsal team during that time have been postponed. 

Tuesday, 10 March

8.00pm: The Copa del Rey tournament for the roller hockey team has been postponed. The tournament was to take place in La Coruña on 19-22 May and the roller hockey team have also seen the next two games in the European League also postponed. 
7.00pm: Following advice from the relevant authorities, the ACB and the Euroleague have decided that Barça - Zalgiris Kaunas (13/3, 9pm), Barça - San Pablo Burgos (15/3, 9pm) and Barça - Khimki Moscow (19/3, 9pm) will be played behind closed doors. Barça's game against Real Madrid on 22 March at 6.30pm at the WiZink Center in Madrid will also be played without the presence of the general public. 
6.00pm: FC BARCELONA STATEMENT: The Club announces the measures to be taken to protect the health of its sportspeople, fans, supporters' club members, visitors and employees.

1.00pm: The Spanish Football League announces that the next two La Liga set of fixtures will be played behind closed doors, affecting Barça's away game at Mallorca and home game against Leganés. 
10.30am: After consultation with the Catalan Regional Government (Generalitat de Catalunya), FC Barcelona announces that the game against Napoli on 18 March (9pm) in the Champions League at Camp Nou will be played behind closed doors.
